Plasticor heat-insulating skydomes

 

The skydomes - mostly on flat roofs – provides solid light in bigger spaces, where the standard windows cannot provide enough for the whole room. Thanks to the shaping, the material and equipment use, the presences of the domes are aesthetic, and have a perfect heat-insulation.

 

Variations to a task

 

The fix skydomes provide natural light without the daily ventilation feature. The fix domes cannot be opened by hand, moreover, the specially manufactured high impact polycarbonate “armor domes” even whitstands burglary! The electric or manually opened skydomes provide optimal amount of natural light, and the variable opening height enables the comfortable daily ventilation without draft. The Plasticor rooflight domes can be ordered with escape hatches too, which enables the easy and comfortable access to the roof, while providing the same amount of natural light.

The Plasticor skydomes can be ordered in huge variety. Not only the dimensions, but the used materials are important part of the complete order too. The collars can be made of:

  • PVC
  • Fibre glass polyester
  • Galvanized steel with outer thermal insulation

The height of the PVC collars are always 15 cm, the fibre glass, and the galvanized steel collars can be 15, 30 and 50 cm high. The waterinsulation can be fitted with flame on the polyester and the galvanized steel collars.

The transparent layers can be made of:

  • polycarbonate (PC)
  • acryl (PMMA)

The polycarbonate layers are unbreakable, with a fire rating of B-s1, d0. The acryl (PMMA) layers have much better weather resistance, and keep their original colour longer.

The dome layers can be ordered in the following colours:

  • clear
  • white (opal)
  • outer layer white (opal), inner layer(s) clear
  • Heatstop
  • Solar control IR
  • any other from the manufacturer’s range of colours

The transparent layers let through the most light, therefore the most heat too. The opal layers provide pleasant diffused light, so we advise to use it in living spaces or places of work.

The left picture below shows a transparent layered rooflight dome, while the right one shows an opal layered one. Although the amount of light projected are equal, in case of the opal coloured layers the shadows are not so contrasty, the corners become brighter, and therefore the space becomes more pleasing.

Available dimensions

 

When designing a skydome, usually the most basic dimension is the "B", as the size of the roof opening. Size "A" is the size of the transparent surface. Size "C", "E" or "D" usually needed when replacing an extant dome or when building a special/unique collar.
